Fair Easter Egg Hunts

Kids love the fun and excitement of an Easter egg hunt. The problem of course, is that the older kids get most of the goodies because the young ones haven't learned how devious Mom and Dad are about hiding things!

For a new variation that will ensure everyone has the same amount of fun, try making it an Easter Treasure Hunt, with their Easter Basket as the end prize.

Dollar and discount stores sell bags of plastic colored eggs that are perfect for hiding clues for each child. Allot one color to every child, and make it clear that there is no egg-snatching, because the other person's clues aren't going to help them at all.

For the youngest children, sometimes pictures make the best clues. For example, the first egg you hand them to start off the hunt, might have a bed cut out of a catalog or advertising flyer. Help the little ones who haven't quite caught on yet, and point them towards their bedroom. Place the next colored egg in a fairly easy to find place like under the pillow, or right on the bed. Now you could use a picture of a stove in the next egg, and off they go to the kitchen.

Setting up the hunt requires a little thought on your part, to create clues that will be entertaining, and appropriate to each age level. The older the child, the more fun you can have trying to trick them.

In order to get started, set everyone down for breakfast and then go off on your clue hiding circuit of the house, and stash their baskets at the end of the trail.
